The Pertex Shield shell is 100% waterproof and seam-sealed, and it features a diamond fuse weave that makes it 5 times more tear-resistant than the old Helium. Even so, it's still ultralight and ultra-packable, leaning into weight savings for the backpackers and thru-hikers who want to carry as little weight as possible and still have some lightweight protection against the surprise showers and squalls that might sneak up on us. When we do need added rain protection, the Helium slips on quickly to give us breathable waterproofing for our hikes and travels.
